CoinGecko and CoinMarketCap are the reference directories for crypto prices. Spectre is a research layer: it answers why something is moving, with the evidence in view. Many people use both.

When to use CoinGecko or CoinMarketCap
When you need a price, a market cap, a contract address, a list of exchanges or a long tail of small coins, the two directories are fast and free. Spectre itself lists both pages for its own token, below.
What Spectre adds
Why it moved. Ask about any coin and Spectre Search writes a short answer from live data: the catalysts from the project’s own posts and news, the chain it trades on, how its sector is doing, where it sits in its cycle and how active the team is.
Attention on X. Spectre’s X Dash counts talk against its usual pace, separates project accounts from the crowd and flags copy-paste promotion, labelled as opinion.
Flows and tokenized assets. Daily US spot Bitcoin and Ether ETF flows by fund, and tokenized treasuries, gold and stocks with the gap to the real share.
Inside your AI. The same data in ChatGPT and Claude through the Spectre MCP connector, in beta.

Is there a CoinGecko alternative that explains price moves?
Spectre Search is built for that: ask about any coin and it answers why it moved from live data, catalysts, sector and chain context and X attention, with sources. It complements CoinGecko rather than replacing its coin directory.
Is CoinMarketCap or CoinGecko more accurate?
Both aggregate prices from many exchanges and are generally close for liquid coins; differences show up on thin, small coins. Check the exchanges and volume behind a price before relying on it.
Can I use Spectre data in ChatGPT or Claude?
Yes. Add the Spectre MCP connector (https://mcp.spectreai.io/mcp) in ChatGPT or Claude and sign in with your Spectre account. It is in beta and free while we test.
